If you love plants, it stands to reason that you would also like to preserve the environment in which they grow. Maybe that's why you've already thought about replacing the peaty soil in your flower pots with a more environmentally friendly one. Peat-free soil protects the bogs, which in turn can store a lot of CO2 - but it is also usually much more expensive and harder to come by.
Nevertheless, you don't have to give up home-grown kitchen herbs, you can simply try the Hydroponics-Kit for Bottles. With this, you can grow your own plants using only the accessories included in the set, a little water and an empty bottle. With hydroponic plant cultivation you not only protect the bogs, but also save water. And it can be done just about anywhere. NASA is even researching the possibility of growing vegetables on Mars and in space with this method.
In the set you get seeds, fertiliser and substrate and of course the 3 inserts from the 3D printer. Depending on which bottles you want to use, there is a choice of either 18 mm or 16 mm diameter. For example, most normal sized wine bottles have a diameter of 18 mm.
Once you have prepared your chosen containers with water and the insert, all you need to do is add the substrate, fertiliser and seeds and wait. Through the transparent glass you can even observe the growth process of the roots! By the way, bottles made of green or brown glass are best because there is less algae growth.
Here you can find a YouTube video that illustrates the use of the bottle kit and here we have another hydroponics kit that you can use to grow various kitchen herbs in tins.
