Don't we all dream of constructing our own robot? Unfortunately, pretty much anything beyond a fighting machine designed for Robot Wars can be pretty complex.
So, how about this Hydraulic Robotic Arm kit? The kit allows you to build a fully functional hydraulic robotic arm. The arm is a little brother of those big industry robots that do things like lifting car parts and stuff. Of course, it won't be able to raise heavy items like that, but model cars won't be a problem!
Before you start moving things around, you need to assemble the Robotic Arm. The kit contains more than 50 pieces, and the frame is made of wood. Don't worry, the kit contains a detailed and illustrated (yay!) manual, which leads you step by step through the process. Assembling will take a little time, sure, depending on your experience as a robot engineer. But that's all part of the fun ;).
Additionally, you need a ruler, scissors and (most importantly!) glue (included). And of course, water for the cylinders.
When everything has found its place and is fixed and aligned, and when the cylinders and hoses are filled with water, then your Hydraulic Robotic Arm is ready to use... Time to try it out to learn how it reacts and how it can be controlled...
When you've got to know each other, you can start to lift and move small objects. How about organizing your Warhammer figures? Or building your own tiny assembly line? You can adjust the gripping pads depending what you want the arm to lift.
Why not control the arm as part of a team? Three people could split the three cylinders: one person controlling the base, one the hinge, and one the gripper.
Check out the photos to see the Hydraulic Robotic Arm's range of movement. You can also see the ready syringe holder, too. Use it to control the Arm by pressing or draining the right amount of water. It's just hydraulics!
As an added bonus, this is an educational activity! You'll learn something about hydraulics. Basic information can be found in the manual, of course, but really you'll learn as you go.
We'd say that the kit is suitable for older children and above. If that's you, then come on - what are you waiting for? Your Robot Arm is ready to be built!
