Actually, it was said that the name of the Grey Wizard Gandalf was taken from the Edda, the collection of Old Norse texts. Now, however, lost picture material – namely this GandAlf Decal – has come to light. On it you can clearly see that the second part of the name is a reference to Gandalf’s actual origin. The famous wizard is, in fact, an extraterrestrial life form, which probably explains his sometimes rather grumpy manner, his brilliant rhetoric and the fact that cats are never seen near the Fellowship!
