At first glance, the manga and anime "Death Note" is about a highly intelligent student who decides who deserves to live and who does not, and thus places himself above all people like a god. But beyond that, various philosophical questions are answered in the course of the plot, which gives the story a fascination and depth that you can look for in other manga for a long time.
Nevertheless, one cannot deny that the story would have taken a different turn without Light's arrogance. He probably wouldn't have even considered enforcing his definition of justice so ruthlessly otherwise.
