The bicycle is locked, but the USB stick with our most important and confidential data we simply carry around openly? Not so smart.
Of course, a USB stick can hardly be secured with a bicycle lock. Or can it? Although the cryptex bears a certain resemblance, it is much more visually appealing. The cylinder and the combination lock are enclosed in sturdy metal, coloured antique gold and together with the leather loop for attaching to the keyring, the USB adapter looks very high quality and almost like a real antique.
The lock design of this USB adapter is based on an ingenious invention by Leonardo Da Vinci. Well, not really. Actually, the cryptex was penned by the author Dan Brown. But even he, in turn, was not the first to come up with the idea for this secret hiding place. The earliest records of a similar lock date back to the twelfth century, by an Arab engineer named al-Jazari, but that would be going too far now. ;)
The Cryptex Micro SD Adapter in a Steampunk Design actually works in a similar way to a combination lock for a bicycle: the numerals 0 to 9 can be seen on five rotating rings. Only when they are positioned correctly can the USB stick be opened and used. The code is enclosed in the package.
