The Kobayashi Maru scenario is a Starfleet training exercise. In a simulation, the participant of the test is confronted with a seemingly hopeless situation. During the test, the starship receives a distress signal from the Kobayashi Maru, which has struck a gravitic mine in the Klingon Neutral Zone. The cadets now have to decide whether to help the Kobayashi and thus, violate treaties with the Klingons –or avoid risking their own crew when confronting Klingon battle cruisers.
Being a test of character rather than a task with right or wrong answers, the Kobayashi Maru scenario is designed to provide insight into the cadets' behaviour and decisions in a no-win situation.
But is there really no possibility of beating the 'no-win' scenario...?
If you strictly adhere to the rules, maybe not. But someone who has enough courage and creativity not to believe in hopeless situations, –and who knows when it's okay to cheat (like reprogram the computer for a solution) and when it's not (like reprogram the computer for a solution!) –creates a solution all of their own.
If that's you, then you need this 'I Beat the Kobayashi Maru' shirt.
