Assassin’s Creed is about more than assassinations. The theme of the series is free will: the Templars want to force their beliefs on others by suppressing free will and individuality, but the Assassins fight for freedom. This fight is centred around the Pieces of Eden, technologically advanced artefacts of the Isu, the first civilisation on the planet. With Pieces of Eden such as the Apples of Eden, free will can be influenced, which would make them terrible weapons in the hands of the Templars.
