tibo is a robot for both beginners and advanced robotic tinkerers. As soon as it's assembled, it offers various opportunities for experiments using its light sensors.
Step 1: Assembly
Before you can get started, you have to build your own tibo. And for that, you'll need a few basic items that aren't included in the kit (but as a robot fan, we're guessing you'll own them already):
- a soldering iron and a tin solder
- small flat nose pliers and a side cutter
- a Philips and a Frearson screwdriver
- x4 AAA batteries.
If this is your first self-assembled robot, don't panic! The construction is explained step by step, and even trickier things like 'brazing' are described in detail. Please note: the manual is in German only. This way you'll learn about electronics and the functionality of your new robot. Assembly is completed in around two hours.
The robot has a diameter of 10cm - well, it should do! ;)
Step 2: Experiment
When tibo is complete, you're ready to start your experiments. The robot works with light sensors that enable different actions. Let tibo follow lines for example, or control him with a torch light. Several tibos can even interact!
The manual offers detailed descriptions of basic experiments as well as some ideas for further tests. Then, you're ready to break out and design your own.
The kit contains a German manual only. Recommended for ages 14 years and above.
